The truth is, that given the Medicare fee schedule for General Surgeons, there is very little incentive for Med School Grads to enter this specialty. I think that its time for Surgeons especially to consider opting out of Medicare (and poor paying insurance companies like Aetna, United Health Care, Cigna) in large numbers in order to shift the balance of power. Why anyone would want to go through 4 years of Med School, 5-7 years of residency and fellowship, then accept $300 for a partial colectomy is beyond me. My wife's tab at the salon sometimes exceeds this numeric amount. Meanwhile, the CEO of United Health Care retired with a $2 billion retirement package in 2006. In order to make things better for Physicians, we have to demand what our training is worth, not accept these ridiculous fee schedules.

Lissa R. comments on Effects Of Changes In The Medicare Physician Fee System

<created>2012-05-16T13:15:52Z</created><issued>2012-05-16T13:15:52Z</issued><modified>2012-05-16T13:15:52Z</modified>

I agree with you Dr. Lafferty. I particularly agree with your comment about getting involved with limited partnership syndicators. After seven frustrating years of residential properties, we started investing in large multifamily apartment buildings through fractional ownership. Its very important to do the due diligence and find an experienced asset manager with a proven track record. Our returns have been so much better this way and now we have none of the managment headaches.

D comments on Average 2011 Physician Income By Specialty

<created>2012-05-08T07:44:57Z</created><issued>2012-05-08T07:44:57Z</issued><modified>2012-05-08T07:44:57Z</modified>

how do Radiologists earn that much?

Pamela Vlahakis, RN, MSN, CBCN comments on By Far The Most Common Conversation In A Hospital Is Complaining

<created>2012-05-05T15:16:36Z</created><issued>2012-05-05T15:16:36Z</issued><modified>2012-05-05T15:16:36Z</modified>

Tamara,
I enjoyed your article immensely, and especially that you attempt to consider why individuals may be unkind- and move forward. I often remember I do not know in the brief time I care for someone the complete scope of difficulties life has handed them or the choices they have made, nor do I need to-only to respect them and do the best I can for them. Everyday is a choice - to be negative , understanding what you permit you promote, or choose to do the best you can with what you have. Unfortunately, we often forget how short life is until we are reminded of our personal vulnerability. Your article is a great reminder of how to live well.
