HI. WE'RE FREELANCE MD.

We're a community that helps physicians control your career, add additional income streams, and improve your lifestyle. We made this website.

For too long, physicians have suffered from inefficiency, disorganization, and careers at the mercy of bureaucracy. Freelance MD is an active community of physicians that gives you more freedom and control of your medical practice, income, and lifestyle... even if you're clueless about where to start and you're already working 60 hour weeks.

Why Freelance MD?

This site is defined by our insistence that physicians need to have control of their own careers and lifestyle and that whining about how you're not appreciated, overworked, and underpaid isn't going to get you anywhere.

Every part of Freelance MD is developed with the mindset that we want to provide clear options to physicians and empower them to make their own choices and take intelligent, direct action.

We think that providing the information and resources that physicians need to control their lifestyle and career is good for the public, good for the practice of medicine, good for physicians, and good business. That mindset, along with our fanatically loyal physician community and our awesome roster of contributing physician authors, has allowed Freelance MD to grow into a thriving community and trusted resource for docs around the world.

We're not interested in the useless hand-wringing that populates so much of medicine and that so many physicians have bought in to. If you're looking for another group of doctors who just sit on their thumbs, you've come to the wrong place.

But, if you want to take action to control your career, add income streams and improve your lifestyle, we invite you to join us.

We've also received a lot of inquires about joining Freelance MD so we've written a number of posts to get help you get started, from how to add a Freelance MD badge to your website, to how to write a guest post, to how to become a contributing author.

The Founders

Freelance MDs inception began with a phone call in the summer of 2010 in which Greg called Jeff looking to discuss advertising for the Medical Fusion Conference (Gregs nonclinical physician conference) on Medical Spa MD (Jeffs cosmetic physician community.) Since that time they've been in cahoots. Freelance MD is the result.

Freelance MD is the brainchild of Jeff Barson, an entrepreneur/developer living in Park City, Utah. He founded Surface Medical in 2001 and built the premier community for physicians in cosmetic medicine at Medical Spa MD. Now he starts technology businesses and builds communities including Freelance MD and Uncommon Student MD. He spent a big chunk of his life in England as a kid, and Manhattan as an artist before fixating on starting medical and technology companies. Also, he is tall.

Dr. Greg Bledsoe is the adventurous co-founder of Freelance MD. He's an ER doc that founded both the ExpedMed and Medical Fusion conferences. He's the chief editor of Expedition and Wilderness Medicine, has been widely published and quoted and has been the personal physician to two US presidents during foreign trips to Africa. He's also a member of The Explorers Club, has been to both poles and 40 different countries. He likes polar bears.
