I believe we need more physician executives leading organizations throughout our healthcare system. The main reason is physicians understand the clinical model due to their medical training, and can better relate to the needs of the customer (i.e. the patients) In my days as a healthcare CEO I was always trying to understand the clinical model and most of the time physicians were there to "educate "me.
I think this thing wouldn't hurt if ever especially if a certain physician really needs to level up on his career. But if you think you're doing fine with your profession doing it on your own, then I guess a professional isn't a necessity at all.
